Sunriver is an independent community governed by the Sunriver Owners Association (SROA). It is run by nine board members, and governs itself with its homeowner association, public works department, and budget. Because of this its amenities, including its twenty-six tennis courts, two parks, swimming pools, and pathways for bicyclists, joggers, and walkers, are all considered private property.

This helps to make the community safe for residents. Sunriver also employs its own police staff, fire department, and emergency medical services, so help is always in close range and available when needed. Over four thousand privately-owned residences are in Sunriver. The population is approximately seventeen thousand, however, during vacation season that number can increase considerable.

Activities

There are plenty of activities residents can take part in to keep themselves busy. There is the Sunriver Resort which offers plenty of activities as well as the Sunriver Village Mall which offers a variation of services including retail shops, restaurants, and business services. There is also the Central Oregon Symphony, High Desert Museum, Sunriver Nature Center, and the Deschutes National Forest that residents can enjoy.

Education

Sunriver has a variety of options for schooling. Parents can enroll their children in public school which include schools in the Bend/LaPine School District and Three Rivers Elementary which is located in Sunriver, or they can choose private schools such as Morning Star Christian School, Cascades Academy, and Seven Peaks School. There are also multiple options for higher education such as Oregon State University, University of Oregon, Central Oregon Community College, and Central Oregon University Center.
